Herbert Dyer
Mr. Dyer is a former CEO/Director of large private and public organizations involving legal financial obligations to hundreds of thousands of participating members and their families for their retirement income security and help with the cost of health care.
Specifically, Mr. Dyer is a former Executive Director of the Ohio State Teachers Retirement System, a state retirement system (650 employees) covering nearly 250,000 active and retired former teachers and their families with the oversight and control of the census and service information, as well as the investment responsibilities for more that $60,000,000,000 in internally managed stocks, bonds, real estate and hedge fund commitments.
Prior to that Mr. Dyer was the Executive Director of the Maryland State Pension and Retirement Systems, a state retirement system (130 employees) covering more that 150,000 active and retired former state and city employees, judges, police and fire and troopers and their families with the oversight and control of the census and service information, as well as the investment responsibilities for more that $40,000,000,000 in internally and externally managed stocks and bonds.
Mr. Dyer was also the Executive Director of the United Mine Workers of America Health and Retirement Systems, a national Taft-Hartley health and retirement system with 620 employees covering more that 60,000 active and retired coal miners and their families with the oversight and control of the participant service and eligibility information, as well as the investment responsibilities for more that $12,000,000,000 in internally and externally managed stocks and bonds.
Mr. Dyer has also held the position of Corporate Treasurer and VP-Personnel for USAirways, a commercial freight and passenger airline with operations throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico and Europe with the added role of federal Plan Administrator under ERISA for all union and non-union retirement, health insurance and tax-sheltered savings plans.
Herb has been an advisor to several multi-state public employee benefit administration organizations regarding effective and thorough practices and system operations.
Mr. Dyer holds a BA degree from Allegheny College with a double major in Economics and Mathematics. He was awarded a National Defense Scholarship and studied Econometrics at Cornell University for two years prior to beginning actuarial training.
